FRIDGES AND AIR CONDITIONERS ARE A SPECIAL CASE
Anything with a cooling circuit — fridges, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers — contains refrigerant that has to be recovered by a certified technician before the unit can be scrapped. It's a legal requirement, not a formality, and it's the reason a transfer station may refuse your fridge or charge a surcharge. We route these through proper refrigerant recovery so you don't have to think about it.

Do I need to disconnect the appliance first?+
Ideally yes — unplugged, and with water lines shut off and disconnected for washers and dishwashers. If you can't, say so when you book; we can usually handle a simple disconnect, but we won't touch hardwired or gas connections.
Can you take a fridge that still works?+
Yes. If it's in good working order we'll try to get it to a reuse outlet before scrapping it. BC also runs an appliance efficiency program that sometimes pays for old working fridges — worth a look before you pay anyone to take it.
Can you get a washer out of a basement?+
Yes. Basement and crawlspace appliance removals are routine. Narrow stairs are worth a photo so we know whether to send two crew or three.
